1. Who We Are

4u.lat ("we", "us", "our") is an independent publication that tests, benchmarks and reviews software & AI tools. For privacy inquiries: hello@4u.lat.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

• Newsletter: If you subscribe, we store your email address. That's it — name is optional.
• Contact: If you email us at hello@4u.lat, we receive your email address and message content.
• No accounts: We do not require user accounts and do not collect passwords.

2.2 Information collected automatically

• Analytics: We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Plausible Analytics or similar). It counts visits, referrers, and popular pages without cookies, fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking. No personal data is collected and no data is shared with ad networks.
• Server logs: Our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) may generate standard web server logs (IP address, user-agent, timestamp) for security and debugging. Logs are retained for a short period (typically < 30 days) and not used to identify individuals.
• No advertising cookies: We do not set advertising or tracking cookies. We do not use pixels, retargeting, or third-party ad networks.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To send the newsletter you subscribed to (and allow you to unsubscribe at any time).
• To reply to your messages and improve our reviews.
• To understand which articles are useful (aggregated, anonymous analytics) and improve our content.
• To secure the site and prevent abuse (rate-limiting, spam protection).

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

4u.lat does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. We use localStorage only for:

• Theme preference: remembering light/dark mode (theme key) — stored locally in your browser, never sent to our servers.
• Pagefind / Search: Pagefind runs locally in your browser to search articles — no data leaves your device.

Your browser may also store standard cache assets. You can clear site data anytime via browser settings.

5. Affiliate Links & Third Parties

Some links on 4u.lat are affiliate links (Amazon Associates, PartnerStack, Impact, and direct vendor programs). Clicking an affiliate link may set a cookie on the vendor's site to attribute a sale to us. Those cookies are set and controlled by the vendor, not by 4u.lat, and are subject to the vendor's own privacy policy.

Recommendations are never influenced by affiliate status — see our Editorial Process and Terms. We mark all affiliate links with rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" and disclose earnings in articles with a "Ready to try it?" box.

6. Newsletter & Email

• Provider: We send emails via a reputable email provider (e.g. Loops, ConvertKit, or similar). Your email is stored securely with that provider.
• Unsubscribe: Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also request deletion at hello@4u.lat.
• We never buy email lists and never sell subscribers.
• Double opt-in may be required in some regions to confirm consent.

7. Legal Basis (GDPR — EEA/UK)

If you are in the EEA/UK, we process personal data under:

• Consent: newsletter subscription (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — withdraw anytime.
• Legitimate interests: anonymous analytics and security (Art. 6(1)(f)) — we have balanced this to not override your rights.
• Legal obligation: if law requires us to retain or disclose certain data.

8. Your Rights

EEA/UK (GDPR)

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object, and port your data, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California & US (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to opt-out of sale/share (we do not sell/share), to correct, and to non-discrimination. To exercise rights, email hello@4u.lat with subject "Privacy Request".

We verify requests by replying to the email address associated with the data. We respond within 30 days (GDPR) or 45 days (CCPA).

9. Data Retention

• Emails: Until you unsubscribe + 30 days, or you request earlier deletion.
• Contact messages: Up to 12 months unless needed for legal purposes.
• Analytics: Aggregated, anonymous — retained indefinitely as no personal data.
• Server logs: Automatically rotated/deleted by our host, typically within 30 days.

10. Security

We use HTTPS (TLS) on all pages, security headers (X-Frame-Options: DENY, X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff, etc.), and host on Cloudflare's hardened infrastructure. No system is 100% secure — please contact us promptly if you suspect an issue.

11. International Transfers

Our site is accessible worldwide. If you access it from outside the country where our servers are located, your data may be transferred and processed in other jurisdictions. We rely on standard contractual clauses and the provider's safeguards where applicable.

12. Children's Privacy

4u.lat is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us for deletion.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our practices or laws change. We will post the new date at the top and, if material, note the change on the homepage or via newsletter. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
